Good question, Michael.

Here are my two suggestions:

(1)  Abolish individual performance-related pay.

I'd be willing to bet I won't see this in my lifetime, Michael, certainly in
the USA - it's so entrenched in the current mindset.

(2)  Avoid creating competition unnecessarily - and, yes, that does mean NOT
introducing young children to competitive activities such as the common
version of musical chairs.

For anyone interested in much better alternatives to the common version of
musical chairs (and, indeed, lots of other unnecessarily competitive
sports), you may wish to take a look at the work of Professor Terry Orlick
(e.g. The Cooperative Sports and Games Book, and The Second Cooperative
Sports & Games Book - both available through Amazon and other bookshops).
