RE: Passion

Steve Prevette makes some interesting points. Passion is an emotion useful
in that
- it focuses strongly on an aim and gives 'clarity' of purpose.
- it generates energy and commitment
On the other hand it may not help in answering the question: "By what
method".

Well managed passion can be communicated and be an important contribution to
cultural change. Poorly managed passion can be distracting, disruptive and
self defeating and promote resistance to change.

One of the keys to this management of passion is to stay grounded and in
contact with the prevailing (organisational) culture as it exists and
develops. In the context that Steve made his comments I assumed he was
referring to passion for the implementation of such things as the SoPK.

For many years I have used the rule-of-thumb test for whether something has
been implemented: has it become part of the culture? In achieving
implementation of SoPK passion may well be necessary with the larger aim is
to make SoPK part of the culture.

Thanks Steve,

Ivan Webb
