I hesitate to comment on the summary of views about science presented 
to us by David Kerridge.  However, it seems to me, David, that you 
need to include the foundations of Bayesian logic and Bayesian 
statistics in your discussion. The book Probability Theory: The Logic 
of Science by the late Edwin T. Jaynes, (Cambridge University Press, 
2003) lays out the case with numerous examples.  If someone accepts 
that Probability Theory provides a language within which to discuss 
scientific matters, then as Korzybski teaches, the very structure of 
the language determines our thought processes.
