Re: The Impact Of Deming's Ideas: AT&T of Illinois v. Illinois

I do not believe that WalMart's success is entirely due to their policy of
lowest price. In one of Walton's writings I recall his describing how much
of his success he attributed to Deming's teachings. I notice that when I
go to a Walmart store the people are always ready to help. They often insist
on taking me to where I should go rather than just pointing.
The effect of an organization that follows Deming's ideas will be to
destroy the competition, which is what Deming forecast would happen. The
Japanese motor car industry almost did it to American industry. The
electronics industry fell to the Japanese and has had a tough time to
recover.

I'm not happy to see the smaller supplier disappearing. Home Depot and Lowe's
see to have destroyed the neighborhood hardware store.

I wish I could forecast where we are going.
