Theory

Am wanting to respond to Charles Miller's mail when he talked about =
theory.

I believe we have to go deeper than the examples Charles was suggesting.

It was McGregor way back in 1960 that talked about "the theoretical =
assumptions management hold determine the nature of the organisation" - =
he then went on to define his X theory (people do not like work) in =
contrast to Y theory ( work is a need)

Then there is Systems theory out of which is the recognition that we =
make more advances through co-operation than competition.

And of course Variation and the theories that allows us to gain =
understanding from the data

And the fact that you cannot motivate people - the vast majority come to =
work already motivated - wanting to do our best

If anybody is interested I wrote a couple of papers some years ago on =
the above - the first "The Crux of the Challenge =
www.harehall.co.uk/crox.html and a second paper comparing traditional =
and modern management theories www.harehall.co.uk/cvo.html=20
