Re: PDSA or PDCA

Moderator's Note: Connie asked about whether PDSA or PDCA was correct and, based on
what I have been told; told her that Deming never used the PDCA cycle and
referred to it as "an abomination" As Connie continued her research, she found
many credible sources using PDCA and got more confused. We decided to pose the
question to the DEN and she has subscribed to follow the discussion.

From a previous DEN discussion

"The letters stand for Plan,
Do, Study, and Act. Dr. Deming introduced Dr. Shewhart's 'Cycle' to the
Japanese in 1950, and the Japanese English translation became Plan, Do, Check,
Action which was changed to Plan, Do, Check, Act for reasons of grammar. Dr.
Deming, upon hearing this translation of what he had taught the Japanese, said
that the definition of 'check' was to hold back, which was not what he had
intended the step to be. He suggested several terms, but 'study' seemed to
stick."

Connie's message:

Thank you for your email. But now I am really confused, because I got the
PDCA information from the following links.

So what is happening here?

See article: THREE EXPERTS ON QUALITY MGMT.
Philip B. Crosby; W. Edwards Deming; Joseph M. Juran
BY J. GERALD SUAREZ - TQLO Publication No. 92-02 July 1992
Published for the Dept. of Navy by: Office of the Under Secretary of Navy
[http://tql-navy.org/] [http:deming.eng.clemson.edu/pub/psci/files/3expert.txt]

See article: Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle
Subtitled: Deming Cycle, Shewhart Cycle
[http://www.asq.org/basics/pdca.html]

Now I REALLY need help... Please advise me because I am new to this
management research, and all of these links did stem from your website.

Confused even more now.... please help...

Connie
