From Coop with the In2:InThinking Network:
Our third annual Forum is 40+ days away. On-line registration is open at
In2in.org, with well over one hundred individuals committed to attend this
year's event, coming from as far away as the United Kingdom and Japan and
from across the United States. This forum is dedicated to you and "how to
make a difference from where you are".

With that in mind it is my privilege again to write about one of our
outstanding speakers. His name is Dr. Ed Chaplin and his business
association is with health care. As a neurologist, Ed brings us a
perspective about health care and ourselves that should not be missed
I had the privilege of meeting with Ed last week and we talked for almost
three hours about his understanding of the need to improve the quality of
service in the health care industry. There are many people who talk about
improving the quality of health care, but few are subject matter experts in
health care who can also step back to see medical care as a systemic
phenomenon, in the way that Dr. Deming portrayed manufacturing as a system
to the Japanese in 1950. Throughout this conversation, Ed continually
referred to his patients as customers who deserve the best the industry can
provide. He comes to these conclusions based on his long history as a
quality improvement professional, writing on subjects from Quality Function
Deployment (QFD) to Six Sigma Quality to Customer-Driven Health Care. He is
currently Vice Chairman of Healthcare Division of American Society for
Quality and is a past examiner for the California Council for Excellence
(state Baldrige Award). Ed is also a member of The Altshuller Institute for
TRIZ Studies and has studied with Dr. Yoji Akao, one the originators of the
QFD methodology.
What a combination! Someone who cares, a long background in quality and
customer focus, a great speaker and a person who is willing to commit his
energies to making it happen. He is a perfect candidate for speaking on the
subject theme of our Forum. More importantly he is making a difference from
"where he is today". Ed's bio can be found on our web page, where you can
also find the abstract for his Forum presentation on our web page. He can
certainly talk the walk as he has walked the talk.
We look forward to seeing you in April in Los Angeles, where you will have
the opportunity to think together and learn together with Ed and all of our
speakers and workshop leaders, not to mention several hundred fellow
inthinkers from around the world. Such interactions will leave you well on
your way to "working together" in new ways.
Hard to beat the fact for 250 dollars you get the forum that runs from
Friday night to Sunday noon. In addition, Conference registration entitles
you to two days of, pre-conference workshops at no additional expense. The
workshops will be held at the Boeing facility in Canoga Park on Thursday
and Friday, April 1 and 2. Information about the Conference and the
Pre-Conference Workshops is on our web page. See http://in2in.org
We hope to see your registration soon and look forward to spending some
quality learning and thinking time with you.
