Professional journals contain an abundance of articles discussing research
associated with the "Big Five" personality traits impact on productivity,
classical and operant conditioning methods for work motivation, effective
performance appraisal, etc.
Do any of the DEN members know of professional journal articles that address
(other than conceptual or philosophical arguments) the different aspects of
Deming's ideas?
Where are the management or industrial/organizational psychology studies on:
management by fear reducing productivity/quality,
systems-thinking improving productivity/quality,
effects of performance appraisal on absenteeism, turnover, etc.,
reduced competition increasing productivity/quality,
reduced extrinsic rewards increasing productivity/quality,
encouraging self-improvement increases productivity/quality,
etc.?
The future is part of a system. The I/O psychologist, of this era, appears
fixated on "research that indicates the wrong things." What future research
will provide evidence to Deming's ideas?
Searching for research ideas; past, present and future,
Robert A. Ferrell
