Aberdeen - 5 year vision and conference

Might I request advice and help from the DEN.

Here in Aberdeen, Scotland, we are embarking on an ambitious long term =
plan.

As Deming would say - the aim is to achieve transformation - in =
"industry, government and education" - in our area. The first step is to =
create a broad appreciation that there are alternatives to traditional =
forms of management.

A virtually impossible task - but we do have some things going for us. =
The first being that the population in our area is only 350,000, =
Scotland itself just has a population of only 5 million and we now have =
a young parliament.

Our wish is to develop a five year plan with a conference each year. Our =
first conference is to be 10th February 2005. Peter Senge has agreed , =
via a video link, to be the principle speaker.

We are acutely conscious that it is not sufficient to secure progress =
one project at a time. Progress achieved is invariably lost when the =
champion of that project moves on and is replaced by traditional =
thinkers. We therefore need to think holistically and involve - Private =
organisations - the Public Sector, Education, Politicians, Communities =
and most importantly the Media.

At this point in time we have four basic themes:
1.. A belief in people and their wiliness to commit to goals that =
having meaning
2.. That our society is still dominated by "Command & Control" =
thinking
3.. The basis of moving forward has to be sound knowledge - and =
knowledge is based on theory.
4.. That we should think holistically.
Our target audience is - those that can influence change, those who are =
discontent with the present and those who wish to learn.=20

We are at the early stage of our planning and one of the first things we =
have to do is to secure sponsorship for the project.

Our early needs are to learn from similar projects from around the =
world. We would like to use them as examples and learn from their =
experiences. In this context I have already been speaking to Linda =
Borsum, Battle Creek, USA and Peter Collis, Doncaster, England.=20

Could members of the DEN let us know the contacts of similar projects.=20

Any assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated - and if it is =
appropriate we will keep the DEN informed as we progress.
