from memory (some time ago now) zigon's discussions and his arguments were balanced, quite dispassionate, on several topics relevant to your present pursuit. he also discussed something dear to my interests: intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation, about which much anecdotal hogwash exists. wishing you much good thinking and analysis time, and a successful, well-argued (empirical :-) ) thesis.

having said that, here's an anecdote:
if you want to motivate people, groups and teams, find out about two things, then ... address the answers to these two with a clear plan and to the best of your ability:
- what DEmotivates the particular groups of people you are managing, and (more specifically)
- what you *personally* do (or otherwise contribute to) that demotivates them

and, even more anecdotally, motivation (psychological as distinct from financial) is more about "you" than it is about "them"
