Re: Deming 2005 - Question 2 of 2

I think Jim has hinted at a very bold and insightful question. If a key
part of the Deming Philosophy had not been developed in Dr. Deming's
life time, would the Deming Community have added it later? My simple
answer is NO. I think the DEN has done a poor job at one of it's express
aims - to EXTEND the work of the dear Doctor. As much as I gain by
reading the DEN, we are too ultra-orthodox, we have left ourselves no
room to move, to grow.
Perhaps we need an award to recognize those who have done the most to
EXTEND the Deming System in the past year. If we were actively seeking
the new young "Drs. Lawton and Backaitis" 's, would we find them and
would we be able to incorporate their new discoveries? Or is the very
idea of adding to the "DEMING System" heresy, was the canon closed by
the death of the good Doctor?

[Moderator's Note: Back in the OQPF days, there was a 3rd optional day
called "New Territorys" where just such topics were addresses. I do not believe
I have seen it expressly addressed like this since.
