I made the mistake one time of saying to Dr. Deming during one of the  
roundtable I did with him "how do you go into a company and tell them what needs  to 
be done you have never managed anything."  First he told me "I was  wrong, he 
managed a number of people when he worked for the Government and the  Census 
Bureau."  He further went on to say "the difference is I  listen."  Most 
leaders and managers do not listen to their people.  I  have this conversation on 
tape somewhere.  I will have to go review it soon  to totally refresh my 
memory.  Suffice it to say Dr. Deming had led and  managed organizations and people.
