The purpose of a control chart is to help gain understanding of the process.
Without the task or the process being defined, there is little point in
analysing lists of numbers. As I recall from the earlier post, the data in
this example related to number of undefined "defectives" from an undefined
process. Because we know nothing about the process or what is being
measured, for all we know, the defectives may be the hourly contents of
process waste bins that we are attempting to analyse. It is unlikely that
this will give much insight into whatever the process may be and whatever
may be going on.
Before looking at solutions, a full definition of the problem is required.
