[Moderator's Note: Dr. Cheek -- consider offering an operational definition
based on your understanding and we can go from there. ]
Okay and I ask again for an operational definition of what is a system?
There are computer systems but I am sure this is not what Deming meant by a
system. If it's aim, theory, and the five elements, meaning people, equipment,
environment, methods and materials, then I am on the same page with those who
agree all these components comprise any generic system whether a company,
department, or organization. The five elements become even more definable within
its own category based upon the aim and theory or they have no reason to
exist. And, if the aim is correct, and theory correct, then the one or all of the
five elements are the only things which can be improved. Change the aim and
you may have to alter the theory and five elements. Removal of slogans
changes the environment.
