low-cost mass production is POSSIBLE? OR can anyone offer specific evidence
(as with a certain factory or certain, known, currently existing certain

The best answer to your question is the video "The Next Industrial
Revolution", http://www.thenextindustrialrevolution.org/context.html . This
film completely validates the idea that quality, sustainability and low cost
production can be synonomous.
You might also want to check out Interface, Inc, a carpet manufacturer
which seems to be into sustainability in a big way.
