Re: Why is a systems view important?



Steve Byers makes a good point, attempting to summarise the importance of systems thinking by referring to Fritjof Capra's final chapter in "The Hidden Connections" (2002).
 
While I feel sympatheic towards Capra's project, I also sense there is something fundamentally wrong in his reasoning, or at least something missing.  According to Capra, the world shall be inherited by the feminist deep ecologists.  Not having anything in particular against feminism nor ecology, I don't think world based on these values alone can be sustainable.  Perhaps Deming's concerns with optimalization could add something of importance to the systems philosophy.  I'm not sure.
