RE: Terez on Sloganeering and again Six Sogma

On the final pages of "The New Economics", Deming is highly critical of Six Sigma and other quality efforts focusin on gprocess capability indices rather than the process. In some of the introductory books on Six Sigma I've read, the use Pizza delivery as an example, and the methods consists of (1) defining what is acceptable delivery time, and (2) make sure that this limit is reached within the boundaries of Six Sigma.

To me this way of thinking seems to be anti-Deming. What Deming would suggest would probably be to start monitoring delivery time according to current processes and then try to optimize the system with respect to delivery time by redesigning the process.

It is no wonder Six Sigma does not succeed. The philosophy is anti-Deming. I'm surprised it has lasted 10 years already. The reason for it's stay has probably more to do with SS being a better name than TQM. It sounds more mystic.
