Re: Deming Center and Six Sigma



Bill Woodall mentioned interesting message from Columbia University about how Six Sigma seems to be a summary of what Deming was trying to achieve.  Probably I haven't understood Six Sigma well enough, because my impression is that Six Sigma is the type of fad that Deming was desperately trying to fight, SS being an expensive program that achieves little beyond being food for external quality consultants.
 
What seemed to trigger Deming, however, was systems thinking and optimalization.  His final chapter in "The New Economics" was devoted to Taguchi methods while the rest of the book is more or less a primer in systems thinking from the viewpoint of quality control.
