Measurement

Indiana farmers have a wonderful saying about measurement;

“You know, you can weigh the hog as often as you like…it don’t make him no
fatter.

Sometimes I wonder if we don’t get carried away with the measurement
process.  Good data are invaluable.  But for much of the time is it not the
case that we only need to measure the process well enough to understand it
and to know where to commence improvement?  Measuring rejects/defects is
necessary, but it won’t make them go away.
