Profound Knowledge Application Opportunity

'The Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC) was
recently presented with an opportunity (most, not being that familiar with Dr.
Deming, may not have realized it) to apply the System of Profound Knowledge (SoPK)
I'd like to share with the DEN.

Specifically, they were presented with statistics that showed actual
variation that is occuring/has occurred in our country's (system's) population
characteristics that, according to the Theory of Knowledge, predicts significant
action is/will be needed to maintain "our system." It will be interesting to see
if the psychology of "resistance to change" allows the required actions to be
developed/applied.

Here's the "data:"

Participants at the recent 2005 FACCC Conference: Meeting of the Minds were
treated to a tremendous presentation by former Congressman Steve Gunderson (R -
WI), discussing the country's jobs' revolution and its impact on community
colleges.

Gunderson noted that by the year 2030, 76 million Baby Boomers will have
retired, and there will only be 46 million workers to replace them. That leaves a
skilled
worker shortage of 30 million.

Citing the National Information Center on Highway Education Policy, Gunderson
added that with 75 percent of new jobs requiring some level of post-secondary

education, only 35 percent of Americans (age 25-64) have two or more years of
post-secondary education.'

What do you think?

by dollars, profits, and greed
it is time to start over!
