Steve, thank you for your untiring efforts to move people to take
action. It is harder now than it was in 1993. The businesses we try
to interest, for example, are hardened and coarse. They stay on their
narrow messages like GWB. Even Toyota and their ad agency turn away.
Got to sell more Camrys. How and whether citizens should regard Toyota
differently is not an issue for them.
You are right. The islands of awareness like the DEN must try to
diffuse knowledge at their peripheries because they haven't the wealth
or influence to make big noises in the crowded marketplace. It's
almost like we have to outsmart the system, living underneath it in
some cases like guerillas. Ackoff on defeating the system is perhaps a
good starting place for the kind of thinking needed.
