David Anderson

Some posts have mentioned what is going on to encourage the adoption
of Deming's ideas.

David Anderson is one of the people doing some interesting stuff with
Deming's ideas, I think (and I believe I have posted on his work
before). He is at Microsoft and has an interesting blog where he
mentions Deming's ideas intelligently. He has written several
articles including -
http://www.agilemanagement.net/Articles/Papers/Agile_2005_Paper_DJA_v1_5.pdf

"At Microsoft, we've adopted the teachings of W. Edwards Deming and
stretched our MSF for Agile Software Development method to fit the
requirements for CMMI Level 3. The resultant MSF for CMMI Process
Improvement is a highly iterative, adaptive planning method, light on
documentation, and heavily automated through tooling. It enables
management and organization of software engineering through use of
agile metrics such as velocity and cumulative flow but with an added
dimension of an understanding of variation – adapted from Deming's
teachings."

It is of course, easy to say you are using Deming's ideas (and he is
not saying Microsoft is Deming based but that his organization within
Microsoft is using them but I would see him expanding the scope as he
succeeds). He really seems to understand Deming and actually takes
action.

He is also speaking in Nashville on March 10th. Topic: " Understand
how MSF for CMMI Process Improvement leverages the teachings of
Edwards Deming and marries them with the principles of agile software
development to deliver a lightweight small footprint CMMI solution"
