RE: DOE

Perhaps Petter is being provocative, but has he not heard of the long term
success of the Toyota Motor Co? The principles and methods implemented by
Toyota have yielded profitability and growth in an industry where the
largest three manufacturers are struggling. Toyota is widely written about
and its Toyota Production System, which is also known as Lean production,
seems to me to exemplify everything that Deming advocated. They seem to have
both psychology and engineering. Indeed all the elements of the system of
profound knowledge.

The problem face by managers in organisations, particularly those in the
private sector, is due to the system in which they work (or return to work).
If you work in a joint stock company the Law says that you must place the
interests of the stock holders first. Much flows from this. Without out the
benefit of strong leadership it would be by defintion "insanity" in such an
environment to pursue Dr Deming's teaching if you wanted to retain your job.

Kindest regards
