Education of directors and organisation culture change

There is a lack of thinking at the top of most companies I consult to. At times this almost seems to be deliberate; particularly in relations to appreciation for a system. It is only when the directors "go green" that some system thinking takes place, e.g. Interface. How do we develop the interest in, and capacity for, thinking.
