I am writing off the top of my head a couple weeks after he spoke but
as I remember it (so take this with the understanding what I write may
vary quite a bit from what he actually said) now his main points were
about:
1) team learning (that isn't what he called it - my words) at Boston University
and 2) the "art of business"
He said business schools do a good job of teaching the 30% of business
that is about analyzing, finance, return on investment... but have not
figured out a good way to teach the rest of it. As I understood he
believed the interactions, unknowable figures etc. were the other 70%
(though I don't recall him spelling it out clearly so I am filling it
in with my thoughts).
I wrote down some of the points he made. If I can find those notes I
can try to add some more.
He talked about how people manage to achive based on how they are
measured (hence the title of his talk). He also talked about how at
Boston University they are encouraging teamwork by measuring the
students success based partially on their individual success and
partially on the success of their team members (that are assigned to
them - not self selected). So to succeed you have to get your team
members to succeed.
