RE: Quality Checks
Vic
People will always fail when we try to control them.
The real trick is to understand that the attempts to control are usually the
cause of the problems.
When you service your own car or clean the lawnmower or paint the house, you
don't need quality checks because you care about the result.
You own the car/lawnmower/house and because you own them you "care" about
them so you do the best job you can.
The key to quality is to allow the workforce to care about what they are
doing.
As Deming said, quality is not an add on, it is an intrinsic part of the
process.
If we stop trying to add quality on with check lists and instead start to
understand how to create the environment where quality becomes a part of the
process we will see the sort of performance improvements that Deming held so
tantalisingly in front of us.
