FW: Quality Checks and Automated SPC
Hello All:
Recently a colleague shared an experience that applies to both of the recent
postings from John Dowd.
The colleague did an audit of the SPC techniques at a manufacturer. Within
an hour, the colleague found 51 instances were a data point was plotted
outside of the control limits with no action taken. The entire SPC program
is manual.
John's first posting emphasized the benefits of manual charting. John's
second posting was about the importance of employees understand their role
in the system (organization.)
Is it possible that the value of SPC and charting data is not in the
mechanics (manual or automated), but in the awareness and understanding of
the activity and its importance to the organization?
