RE: PDSA, Taylor, Shewhart and Deming



Hello everybody
I too have a bit of a problem with the term "Scientific Management" in that
it suggests that there is an expected outcome from a specific input.

It feels wrong to suggest that we can treat people in the same way that we
treat machines.

Experience suggests that when we do they react very badly.

Perhaps the real reason that Deming did not call his method "Scientific
Management" was that he understood that performance was driven by a
workforce who wanted to perform, not by managers making them perform.

Creating the environment in which the workforce want to perform is more of a
philosophical undertaking than a scientific exercise.
