Process Capability - examples?

Bob,

Process capability can be quite misleading.  In my opinion numbers such as 
these may be appealing to management but they do not contribute to process 
improvement.

The real meaning of process capability is whether a process is capable of 
meeting specification.  To do this, the process must be in statistical 
control and hence predictable.  A single number does not give this 
information.  This information can only be provided by a control chart.
