Sales Performance metrics

Hi,
Does anyone have experience with the creation and monitoring of Sales Performance metrics please?
I want to think of Sales as a production process so revenue/sales person would be an Output.  Not really the right thing to measure, except perhaps as a confirmation metric of up front Inputs and in-process activities.
