Regarding Martin Gibson's post below...
It seems to me that sales (e.g., orders placed and/or the dollar value thereof) can be viewed as a product and thus sales as a production process. However, sales (a.k.a. "purchases") are also a product of the buying decision as much as they are of selling activities. So you might be well served by giving some thought as to how to incorporate the buying decision into your sales production process.
