This just doesn't seem right. The number seems far too high. Most
workers will tell you they go to work to earn money to buy the
things they want to live and to enable them to enjoy themselves.
Many workers don't see any relation between the quality of their
work and their future prospects, so they put little effort into
doing a good job. 'Good enough' is the usual phrase. Even if they
feel pride in the company they work for and their products, that's a
long way from 'doing the best job they can'.
Ishikawa quotes a US worker in one of his books, who was asked why
he only worked four days a week, as saying "Well I can't get by on
the money I'd get for three days."
