Mr. Tibus quoted Gandi's words, then paraphraased them to create another 
image (below.)  While I understand the image, I am bothered by the
apparent condemnation which is implied.  By Maslow's heirachy of needs,
the peasent(especially in India) sees improvement as the ability to survive.  It is
a short-sighted view, but required because, without food, there is no long
term.  (I think Mother Teresa survived in this environment with the rather
bold view that God would provide.)

Are you maintaining that top management is so addicted to short term
problem solving (fire-fighting) that they cannot/will not take longer term
perspective?  What does that portend for any hope for strategic planning
or longer term commitment to improvement?
