One other quick and excellent way I have found applicable in both white and
blue collar jobs is "to identify, by individual, all rework." Re-review,
re-type, re-write, re-machine, re-issue, re-anything.
Ask yourself the question as you go through tomorrow, every 1/2 hour or so,
"Is what I am doing right now original work that is adding a new value to my
customer? (If not it is rework.) Why am I doing it? What 'chain of events'
(all rework and waste) is it a part of? What are the labor and material
costs? What could those funds have been used for?"
The answer to the last two questions can get downright scary real quick.
