When I tried to explain the concept, his only response was that all

It's not that they're wrong, they are just living in the wrong world. My
recommendation to anyone with the problems that Matt is experiencing is:
beg, wheedle, cajole, plead, extort--do whatever you have to do, but get
that manager or some company statistician whose opinion that manager
trusts, and send them to Wheeler's "Advanced Topics in Statistical
Process Control" seminar. This seminar is designed to help those with
advanced degrees in math and statistics understand the aspects of
statistical thinking that (maybe) no one taught them in school, and he
does a wonderful job. He can talk advanced mathematics and physics at
any level you want, and has very real concrete examples and
demonstrations to show the differences between the mathematical models
we use as analogies for the real world, and the real world they
represent.
It is a very impressive four days, and will probably make a substantial
difference in how any organization's quality team operates.
