Thank you for this feedback Ian.
Others must judge whether this is 'right', but we have found it to be
helpful. When we first developed the idea of the Tetrad model, our aim
was to make SoPK more accessible to learners.
Our choice of the word 'people' was quite deliberate. Firstly, we have
found that the word 'psychology' can be initially off-putting for many
managers. Secondly, effective leadership of people (including self
management) requires more than just knowledge of psychology. Some
understanding of physiology, for example, is also important.
I wrote to Dr Deming about the Tetrad model and his use of the word
'psychology' in Profound Knowledge. He replied (23 September 1992):
"I thank you for your help. It would be difficult to make changes in the
new book now being printed, but your suggestions will cause deep
consideration for later editions".
What an optimist! Sadly he didn't stay with us long enough to revise The
New Economics.
