The DEN and ASQ

I forgot to mention one other scenario re: the DEN and ASQ.

The DEN could apply to become an official "division" or "interest group"
of ASQ, as the Public Sector Network did a couple of years ago. As an
interest group, the DEN would receive board funding for whatever
activities it could convince the board were worth funding. In exchange,
the DEN would participate as a member of the General Technical Committee
structure of ASQ. By doing so, the DEN would have some influence over
ASQ policies and future plans. The DEN could also solicit members from
the larger ASQ membership body. (By the way, of ASQ's 129,000 members,
nearly 70,000 do not currently belong to any division or interest group.)

This is how the Public Sector Network started out...as an interest group.
The PSN is now a division... with dues-paying members, rather than board
funding...and with a slightly more elevated role in the ASQ organization.

I know this would be quite a change for the DEN -- to go from being "on
the outside" to being "on the inside" of the only trade association with
(IMHO) the potential to make what we know visible (ie. to market) to the
population at large. If this were to happen, I believe Dr. Deming's
philosophy would go from being "the best kept secret in the managerial
world" to being "the most in-demand body of knowledge inthe managerial
world."

Just some food for thought.
