So p.93 is the key and the heart of WED's view of understanding and
acting with SoPK. This is another example of David Kerridge's Ways to
See. It is worthwhile posting it as the key to any Deming related
websites or our notes
.
I have some feedback to Mike's masterful mail.
Although WED's SoPK is his trademark, we need to understand his
philosophy of 'teaching': the percetage of text covers with exact SoPK
terminology in his works is very small and most Greeks or other advanced
words including C. I. Lewis were taken away from TNE.So if folloers of
WED too emphasize the word 'profound', it might keep most customers
'confounded'. This includes many models or toys(graphs) of SoPK and the
'beads games' of interactions of SoPK.( I am glad that our logo of SoPK
is a like red heart without and division of knowlege.)
Mike's account of this story also made me think about the development
psychology stories that each kid need to re-invent his or her
logical-mathematical/physical/social knowledge. For me, 'a system' is
like 'conservation' concept. Some day we can see the relationship in
SoPK or with some insights. But if you have the chance to read original
text of H. A Simon's Administrative Behaviour and the commentaries of 50
years' new learning, we'll be humble that some thinking like WED's, WAS'
and HAS' may be timeless or they tried to be up to this quality.
I learned this when I read WED's drafts of OOTC and his handouts of
Taiwan seminar of 1978. One of the most challeging issues of an
invitation to be a president of a small company is that I am not so sure
of my past 'achievements' competencies and my new philosophy of running
business or my values, all of them are with new understandings.
Anyway I like to thank Mike, David and many others for their postings.
In my opinion, understanding our and other people's(includes WED among
others) ways and paths of learning might be quite illuminating.
As a community of learning, we need to learn from each other. for
masters with special understanding, please share with us. I think it is
a pity that Jean Piaget was a man with a special understanding of M.
Proust's masterpiece 'scientifically or psychologically but he left with
no record of his way of seeing and understanding.

This email is in memory of part of my conflicting views of June 4, 1989
with some of my Chinese friends. Even we might have different level of
understanding, I know you can make a new China.
[Moderator Note: The folks at Tetra-Main Limited and Al Viswanathan
have each had success using the tetra-hedron as a SoPK learning tool.
And while their techniques are a bit different -- I think the result
in both cases is a better understanding of the "singular nature" of
this thing we call a system.
