Changing Windows

Hello group:

There is too much variation in this example to reach any conclusion, but
that may be helpful to improving the process.

1. Inspector A seems to see more wrong than the other inspectors. Safety
items D-1, and D-7 were all spotted by Inspector A. Does this inspector
have a different standard? Since these are safety items which could
potentially affect the safe operation of an aircraft are these things that
the other inspectors should have spotted also, or are these things that if
present on the jobs inspected by the other inspectors, they would have
spotted also. Do we have consistancy among the inspection group?

2. A brief look at the totals for each catagory says that a quick way to
improve the process is to do some training in the documentation process
(D-6) with the inspectors and mechanics present so that there will be
consistancy within both groups.

3. The other most frequently mentioned flaw was D-5, the installation
process. Some training here could also potentially benefit the process.
In both cases follow-up to the training and on going tracking could tell
you if this was a training issue or if something else is driving this
process. Having worked in the Air Line business I know that Mechanics are
paperwork adverse, or paperwork challenged. While they may appreciate the
need for it they neverless do not like it. Mechanics also tend to be
fairly independent minded people who are constantly looking for a better
way. Could it be that each of the mechanics has found a better way to
install that window, and could they all be wrong?
