Now, if only I could write that clearly. My whole point was exactly that, 
that we, as a culture, have/do treat such variation as a "special" cause 
"assignable" to the individual, and that that is simply wrong, is tampering.

That the article also evidences some shortfalls in the researcher's 
understanding of variation? Yup! Join most of the rest of the world. Great
