Probably, good things. I understand that under Linux you can run your
Microsoft applications (including Windows) without rebooting your computer
every five minutes. You can connect many different computers without a
crash. You don't have to give up your investment in capital and training in
Microsoft applications, but your machine finally runs as intended. This may
have a chilling effect on software development of applications running
directly under Linux (without the need for Windows at all). When equivalents
to Microsoft Word and Excel are written to run directly under Linux, I think
Microsoft will have to acquire Red Hat and profit directly. Also, the
underlying code is widely distributed (like shareware) and cannot be
controlled directly. This will prove interesting!
