A common starting error for all learners is the belief in recipies, both
practices and examples.
Last year most Quality or Professional Seminars in Sweden started with the
heading "......In Practice".
Somebody asks me about Software Companies who have "adopted the Deming
philosophy", well......
1. The starting point for any organisation today, at this hour is unique -
one of a kind.
How well do you know it before you give advice?
2. The example presented by any organisation who have adopted some of the 14
points is unique
and hardly good theory for the next company. It will be only one, hopefully
a good example. Good treating of people might be good examples.
3. All examples of adopted Deming philosphy, consiously or not, are good
examples for studies and research - Benchmarkning if you like.
4. By your growing understanding of theory you may study the possible
starting points of the "target organisation".
5. If you do not have a full understanding of all 14 points in interaction
and all four areas of profound knowledge in interaction you will make
mistakes like we all do in applied learning. But costs of these mistakes are
acceptable learning investments if they are significantly smaller than the
benefit of the total improvement process. If the loss is bigger than the
benefit, we are dealing with a "HACK", as Dr. Deming called these type of
consultants, auditors, examinators or other interfering persons asking the
wrong questions.
6. Most people lack the patience of studying the theory enough before
starting their projects. These studies are long term investments for your
own success.
7. A good starting point for any organisational change is built on good
visions of it's progressive key people. Hopefully they have their
management's trust.
Then you may start helping this team in adopting the Deming Philosophy.
Open conflicts is hardly the place to start. Win-Lose turns into Lose-Lose.
Epilogue:
Any violation of the natural function of human brain - female, male,
childrens - is a loss to society in the Deming sense.
Modern brain research will confirm many interactions indicated by the Deming
philosophy.
Many negative interactions happen from day to day in our lives.
These negative interactions from outside physical activities to the
psychological field are good examples for your personal studies.
If you experience harmony in your mind with people around you - feel happy.
Please, continue with the "brain research" after most of the Deming thoughts
are "implemented".
