RE: REQUEST: When Deming doesn't apply

Tool making is an easy area to apply charting once you have the mind set.
I have charted
times a mold is retuned for repair
	downtime for a mold
Life of specific parts of molds to select eh best components
Elapsed time to service the customer
	Product quality
Mold deterioration i.e. part dimension across the parting line over time.
Dimensions on an Bar & R chart showing deviation from target on the
machining operations In this way it is possible to track the capability of
machine to consistently hold the target dimension
Defects found during start up both when new and after repair
	Response time to make repairs

Deming is a great deal more than SPEC. He told us to make the systems work
up to their capability and keep them there and that impacts policy, training
, communication design, and every corner of the corporation.

A key thing for tool room support is to learn to read SPEC charts kept by
operators so you can work together to make everything work exactly right. It
is always a boost for every one when the data collected is used to make
repairs and new dies more effective.

Good luck and keep learning, Deming does apply -- big time.
