RE: Can we measure it?

I hope David won't mind me prodding just a little by asking whether he could
clarify this small part of his argument:

> ... The more we use indicators rather than measures, the more we must rely
on theory...

it would help me if he were to expand - it did not seem to me to follow
logically, so I wondered what I had not followed
Also
"... *overall* quality cannot be measured at all."
Prompted me to wonder that if the property we call "quality" is so ethereal
and at the same time so compounded as to be unmeasurable, and if Deming
"...took a very strict view of measurement."
then
- what was it that Deming was discussing about when he used the word
"quality"
- how did the term ever arise in the first place within or outwith the
domain of Deming's work
- how can it be something we can even discuss

wondering
