MBO and others

Thank MT gave us a good explanation of MBO.

WED realized Drucker's on MBO is different from many malpractices of MBO
in one note in TNE.

I like to remind the readers the ambiguity of Objectives. It is clearly
in Pat Haggerty(TI)'s OST(Objectives/Strategies/Tactics) system,
'objectives'are something like goals. This kind of 'deployment' way of
thinking never dies( indeed very popular, see various Balances Scorecard
systems and what I call School of Strategic Deployment(including QFD and
the chapter in Juran Quality Handbook(1999).)

Some of my commentaries are in the following stories-telling from my
recent readings.

I read The Good Society: The Human Agenda by J. K. Galbrath. I think
WED's TNE is a better one. WED not only talks about products/service but
also 'staying on business' among other important agendas and his
profound ways of OOTC.

I read Promise and Power:the life and times of Robert McNamara and
realized the man is good at 'statistical control of data' among other
talents. WED's promises might be more powerful and profound.

In the years of '50 to '60, US Information Service(USIS) launched many
good programs to translate some classics of USA into Chinese. We learned
a lot from the high quality readings and the translators were highly
rewarded. At that time, Prof. Liang were translating the complete works
of Shakespeare(the first Chinese one), he needed many reference
materials. Some empoyees suggested USIS may help to provide them. Liang
asked for some reference books, the budgets are peanuts for USIS. But
the project was rejected due to some authors are British subjects and
USIS's main objective is to serve USA citizens, cultures and for their
benifits.
