BDA EASTERN Region Dec 1999 - Jan 2000 Meetings

Hi again,

Thanks to those who took the time to share in John Seddon's "Sheep or Lambs" talk last week. I understand there was some roasting going on. Definitely just what the grey cells needed.

Our next meeting is just two weeks from Friday - that is Friday morning, 10th December 1999.

But in an unfortunate change from our published schedule, Geoff Phillips will not be able to host us at Bull Electric in Ipswich. Many of you will have heard that the plant is being closed shortly and Geoff is in the middle of some very busy times as you will understand.

So we have drafted in yet another volunteer. Actually, it is the same volunteer who has been drafted numerous times before. Our own Kate Kelly will speak to us on one of her specialities, Our Customer.

Our hosts for this meeting, thanks to the efforts of another of our members, Di Aldrich, will be
Ridgeons, 1-6 Nuffield Road in Cambridge , tel: 01223 466 000

So, adjust the direction finder on your car, rebook that train ticket, put on your running shoes, attach the anti-car guards to your bike, or book your helicopter.

The time:
8.30-9 am coffee and chat
9.00 a.m. - 1 p.m. Business Meeting
1 p.m.- light luncheon buffet

Parking is available on site.

A message from Di Aldrich follows:

>(at the) A14 - A10 junction (head) south for Cambridge City.
>Over railway line, next set of lights turn left into Green End Road
>signposted for Trinity Hall Industrial Estate.
>Ist mini roundabout turn left into Nuffield Road. Our building is on the
>left. Please carry on around the corner where there is plenty of parking.
>Ask any of our blue jumpered or suited staff for reception and they will
>give you directions past all our displays (yes, you can buy from us and we
>have some excellent special offers on at present!)
>
>At reception please ask for me Di Aldrich; I will be there from 7.45 am if
>you wish to arrive early and avoid the traffic. Our tel no is 01223 466000,
>my voicemail/DDI no is 01799 583171 and I will pick messages up before the
>seminar starts.
>
>We look forward to welcoming you to our site and showing you around too.
>
>Regards
>Di Aldrich

Local area map available on request (to Phil please, not Di) by fax or email .gif attachment. I hope you do allow extra time, especially if you are not familiar with the Cambridge morning traffic. I think it's 15 minutes to the mile at 8.30-9 am. At other times of day, Ridgeons on Nuffield Road is just 5 minutes from the A14.

The cost:

Members £10, non-members £20, to cover room, refreshments, and meeting
handout.

     Guests very welcome!

FUTURE MEETINGS

In addition to the scheduled meeting below, we have arranged with Jamie Horton of Rolls Royce and Gavin Jones of Rover to share with us developments they have made using the Deming System model. (Date: TBD; venue, Plinston Hall, Letchworth probably).

Monday evening, 17 January 2000, 1800 (light buffet)-2100
Hazel Cannon -- Reuven Feurstein theories of Instrumental Enrichment and mediated learning.
Venue: Plinston Hall, Letchworth.

[One might say that the Millennium bug struck early. At least it seems we have been working for a millennium! Yes, we do have plans for a program for the year 2000. We hope to offer a modified version of Deming 4-day seminar in a series of perhaps 8 half-day sessions. We are still trying to work out the details, but you know what it's like working with a bunch of volunteers who are trying to put food on the table! Impossible!

Anyway, we would appreciate your reaction and an indication of whether you would be willing to attend

1-2, or

3-4, or

5-6, or

7-8

of these sessions during the year 2000-2001 which will generally seek to achieve the same objectives as Dr. Deming sought in his seminars.

We want to continue with our evening sessions, perhaps not as frequently, as well. That is one of the problems we hope to sort out soon. We will be in touch sooner rather than later.]
