Continious Vs Continual
- Subject: Continious Vs Continual

Hi All,
I have just been in conversation with some people about the ISO9000:2000
regs where it suggests that the objective of quality is CI, now they use
Continual Improvement (and in early issues PDCA) my understanding was that
it is Continious Improvement, as Continual means - according to my
dictionary Always happening with out cessation, whilst Continious means
Connected, uninterupted in time or sequence. NOw the former sounds to me
like a river, it is always flowing there is no sequence in there, whilst
the latter sounds like the tides they go out they come in they go out ....
My understanding is that improvement takes place through learning and
change based on that learing ie PDSA or more correctly
PDSAPDSAPDSAPDSAPDSA. I thought I would solve my dilemma by looking at my
book self, and there I find publications by two people I respect, who have
unimpeachable credentials for understanding Deming's work, namely Don
Wheeler and John Norrie. Don's publication is titled "Building Continual
Improvement", JOHN'S "Winning Through Continious Improvement".
I guess that this has been the subject for discussion before, I do not know
when and I have not got searching the history files sorted, so any help?
Thanks
