My favorite statistics book uses the term 'continuous' to describe
predictive curves derived from an infinite set of numbers. It describes
these curves in comparative terms to distributions of numbers from
actual data. Unless actual data points are collected from a measuring
device that measures an infinite quantity of times the data will be
discrete, and will not be 'continuous'. Continuous, therefore, is only
no more than, say, a line is in geometry -- just a concept.
On the other hand 'continuous' is certainly more dramatic. Sometimes
drama is more important.
